Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my weighted grade?

Multiply each assignment's percentage score by its weight, add the results together, then divide by the total weight. For example, a 90% homework grade worth 20% and an 80% exam grade worth 80% gives (90×0.20 + 80×0.80) = 82%.

How do I find out what I need on my final exam?

Use the formula: Needed Score = (Target Grade − Current Grade × (1 − Final Weight)) ÷ Final Weight. Enter your current grade, desired final grade, and the final exam's weight into the Final Exam Calculator above to get this instantly.

What is a weighted grade?

A weighted grade gives different assignments different levels of importance toward the final course grade, rather than treating every assignment equally. Weights are usually expressed as percentages that add up to 100%.

What percentage is an A, B, or C grade?

On the standard U.S. scale, 90–100% is an A, 80–89% is a B, 70–79% is a C, 60–69% is a D, and below 60% is an F. Many schools also use plus and minus grades within each band, shown in the table above.

Can I enter points instead of percentages?

Yes. Click "Use points" on any assignment row, then enter the points earned and points possible. The calculator converts this to a percentage automatically before applying the weight.
